Alex Pravich

Alex Pravich studied art at Taras Shevchenko State Art School in Kyiv, Ukrainian. He left the school to immigrate to New York City where he continued his studies at The School of Visual Arts.  After college he became an assistant to the painter Mikhail Turuovsky.  They worked together in New York and abroad.  At the end of 1989 they traveled to Germany to make a political statement through art on the crumbling Berlin Wall.

According to Pravich, “My intention is not to reinvent paintings but rather to keep the tradition of realism and classical draftsmanship relevant in contemporary art.  Yet in my work I strive to go beyond representation.  After intense observation and analysis the subject transcends its obvious meaning and becomes a metaphor for experience and emotions.”

Pravich’s connection to the C-School is via director Sybil Patten, his life partner.  He has been supporting her since the beginning and she is very grateful.
