Birds of the Camden Flock Series

“Achilles” is part of the series of 20 Chickadee Portraits, and is painted on hardboard panels ranging in size from 12.5” x 10” to 5.75” x 9”.  The panels are sanded to accept treatment and primed with a premium gesso.  The paintings were done with a combination of medium and tick bodied acrylic.

The artist, Brian Witham, was inspired to capture the Chickadees through conversations with his mother, an avid birder. While incarcerated, these paintings connected Witham to his mother in a new way. Witham describes this relationship; “This kind of deepened the bond between us in a way. The whole time I was working on this project, it was like I was communing with my mother. And over this time of reflection, I had like some insights about her as a person that I'd never really thought of before.”
