Sybil Patten
Patten is a documentary filmmaker and high school teacher based in Brooklyn, New York. For more than twenty years, she has documented the lives of her family, students, and communities through nonfiction storytelling. In 2015, she took a hiatus from teaching to produce a web series highlighting immigrant stories from across the Bronx. She later studied documentary filmmaking at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism with filmmakers Andrés Cediel, Cassandra Herrman, Carrie Lozano, and Dawn Porter. Today, she continues to balance filmmaking with teaching, bringing the same curiosity, empathy, and commitment to both.
